Donations In, Favors Out

★ The Brief

What happened

More than twenty companies across defense, energy, technology, healthcare, and finance are listed as sponsors of Freedom 250, the entity organizing President Trump's celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Individual sponsorship amounts were not disclosed.

Deal or steal?

Several sponsors have separately won favorable federal decisions: Exxon Mobil an Alaska oil-lease sale, Lockheed Martin a Saudi F-35 deal, and Oracle a stake in the TikTok spin-out, even as they helped fund the president's celebration.

Freedom 250's fundraising solicitation offered "bespoke packages" to donors, the New York Times reported in February 2026: at least $500,000 for VIP access and preferred seating at events, $1 million for an invitation to a private reception hosted by Trump with a "historic photo opportunity," and $2.5 million or more for a speaking role at a July 4 event in Washington. As of July 2026 more than twenty companies were listed as sponsors on Freedom 250's website, including defense contractors, energy producers, technology firms, and health insurers; several have significant business before the federal government. Individual sponsorship amounts were not disclosed, and the group's finances run through an opaque corporate structure. A Freedom 250 spokeswoman said Trump "can't be bought by anyone," and the Times noted there is no definitive link between government actions and the donations.
